Up until 1877 the Municipal Executive of Felgueiras, as most of our municipalities, didn't have a proper house to meet.
Therefore it exerted its functions in precarious conditions, at the elected judge's house or, circumstantially, in other places. Sometimes, without any permanent character and going against the old uses and customs of the land, it would gather at the Chamber of Couto de Pombeiro, next to the Monastery, where the Abbot would hear its caretakers' appeals and also chose his officers of civil jurisdiction and in charge of the orphans.
The first known building used as City Hall was the building where the Caixa Geral de Depósitos bank facilities are currently located.
However, it seems that there was another building that was destroyed in a fire that must have had the same use before.
And there the City Council laboured up until June 1st, 1958 when, after a much delayed execution of a project presented in 1939, the present City Hall was inaugurated in Praça da República.
